Angus Munro

Saturday 14/07/07

Angus Munro hill race - 15miles / 5810feet
(British Championships long counter)

17th place - 2hrs 59mins 34secs

Improved on my time of 2005 by over 15 minutes. While I knew I wouldn't get near to the 6th place I grasped from the jaws of 3rd that day, I was chuffed with both my time and position. Would have been nice to have stuck with Paul right to the end and counted for the team. Where he got the energy to drop me by 4mins in the last half hour I'll never know. Nice to see Gina (sic) Mykura run so well, though where she got 'Dan' from I'll never know, I obviously made a big impression at that FRA dinner. Rehydration from cider and guiness and some fine company at the ceilidh rounded off a very succesful trip for the purple posse. PS there is relevance to the two DPFR runner pics (spot the coy looks)

Glaramara

Sunday 08/07/07

Glaramara fell race - 5ish? miles / 2200ft
19th place - 55mins 49secs
(BFR club champs counter)

Andy Howie's typically gushing write up goes thus...

Another epitome of what fell running is about.....
Scoffer put on a real Gem of a Race today.... a gambol up & down Glaramara....a truly magical race, fast, hot, tough, stony, steep, boggy, complex, vistas to die for..... and all that in less than 5 miles (I think?)...with the best performance held back for prize-given (well done Scoff)...!
Just Lovely.... with Borrowdale looking at it's gorgeous best.... probably one of the most beautiful places in the world...
Lloyd on top form, beating the boys from the valley... and Jackie doing the same with the massed ranks of B&CFR Lassies....with young Dave Taylor up there in the first few...1st V (again I think?)...
quite a day.... considering most at the sharp end (& some at the blunt bit too!) had been well into their cups the night before....in pre-nuptials for Mike R & Hazel....
And there were a tiny few from the Bright-side too....

Arrochar Alps

Saturday 30/06/07

Arrochar Alps hill race - 13? miles / 8300ft

6th place - 3hrs 53mins 2secs

The 4 Munros we climbed were
Ben Vorlich 3088ft
Ben Vane 3004ft
Beinn Ime 3318ft
Beinn Narnain 3040ft

With a start and finish at sea level!
I think this race is more worthy of British Champs status than Glen Clova.
Let's hope the committee realise this for next year and Jason and the Westies great organisation will not have been in vain.
Jon Broxap made the trek so I think there's a good chance of it happening.
Midges, noisy neds drinking buckfast and lashing rain curtailed a second night up there.
Climbing on the Cobbler will have to wait. (Sorry Jo Bo).
